A tribute to my Father-Ness Chreky

Images of the 1960’s……

My inspiration in hair began with my father, who came to the US from Morocco in the 1960’s where he opened a few salons in Georgetown.

My father brought over his siblings at that time who are now established in DC.

There are 15 uncles, an aunt, cousins and siblings who all do hair in our family.

We all love you!

DCCWC {Hair by Giselle}

Elegant Hair by Giselle is a local DC metro area Salon that is a member of the DC Couture Wedding Consortium. Giselle has been doing hair for some time now, but in the last 9 years her passion has shifted to special occasion and wedding hair. Her personality is just so sweet and bubbly and she has such amazing skill -
Isn’t she so cute?!

but more than that - Giselle loves what she does and it shows in her work.  Sit in on a conversation I had with Giselle to learn more about her!

Relentless Bride: Giselle: How did you first get involved in weddings?

Giselle: My father came here from Morocco in the 60’s where he opened up 2 salons. He brought over his siblings, and since my siblings and I have entered the industry. Now we are 15 people in the hair business (uncles, aunt, cousins & siblings). We all love what we do.

Relentless Bride: Giselle:What is your favorite aspect of a wedding?

Giselle: Coordinating the brides image. Using color, cutting, extensions, all this leading to their sense of style with the up dos!

Also working with their facial features and dress style. It’s useful to get a visual as we work through the details of each individual person.

Relentless Bride: Giselle: How do you help a bride who is clueless (like me) to find her “style” or “theme”?

Giselle: It begins with the dress.
From there we work out the sense of style based on the dress and the feel of the wedding. Then the facial features (finding balance of the hair style in relation to the face shape), and to see what they prefer in their hair.

This will also depend on the jewelery, veil, headpiece (whether it being a flower, accessory, tiara, headband, head comb). It all goes comes together at the trial runs. I take photos and make detailed notes so that the day of we recap on everything and from there it flows beautifully.

Relentless Bride: Giselle: One piece of advice when it comes to your services and wedding planning

Giselle: Plan ahead! With my hair services I get many requests well advance (1-2 years ahead). Plan well, schedule the trial runs, come in for color, cuts and maintenance leading up to the wedding. Sometimes extensions and hair fillers (for fullness and stability) can be very useful!

Relentless Bride: Giselle: One piece of advice for the bride about her wedding day!

Giselle: Step back, by yourself, take it all in for just a moment (if asked where your going, make it to the restroom and on your way back just take your time)….because it will be over in a flash. Cherish the hard work…that’s what I did and am so happy I did :)
